Bible Baptist School of Theology
Introduction
Have you ever found yourself wanting to better understand that passage you read for devotions? Have you ever found yourself wishing you could answer your co-worker’s objections to Christianity? Have you ever found yourself desiring to minister more effectively for the Lord? It is the prayer of the pastoral staff that Bible Baptist School of Theology will help you in meeting some of these desires. The Christian Living Series (CLS) has been formed as a two year program, designed to educate, edify, and equip the Household of Faith to do the work of the ministry. The CLS is open to believers aged 16 and older.
Overview of the Christian Living Series
Within the CLS, three programs of study are available. Upon successful completion of the requirements, the following certificates are awarded.
- Certificate of Christian Training: Requires completion of any 12 credits offered by the CLS.
- Certificate of Biblical Studies: Requires completion of 18 credit hours, including all six hours of Bible Doctrines.
- Certificate of Theology: Requires completion of 27 credit hours.2 For the student who desires further study beyond the standard 2-year CLS program. Features guided study, reading, and additional courses (some, possibly, via correspondence). Available, at this time, on a case-by-case basis only.
Note: A student who successfully completes the additional requirements may exchange a “lower-level” Certificate for a higher-level one.
The Christian Living Series Core Courses
Hermeneutics: Rightly Interpreting and Applying the Bible
[2 credits]
Heretical cults, major doctrinal errors, and many personal disappointments with God are the result of misunderstanding and misapplying
the Scriptures. The problem is not with God or His Word; the problem is our failure to use proper principles for interpreting of
Scripture. In this course we learn how to rightly interpret and apply the Bible. Textbook: Basic Bible Interpretation by Roy B.
Zuck (Victor Publications, 1991). 324 pp.
Homiletics: Teaching and Preaching the Bible Effectively [2 credits]
Many believers desire to teach and/or preach the Word of God but feel incompetent or unprepared. This course will provide you with the
basic tools you need to choose a passage, find its key purpose, and prepare it for fruitful delivery, whether as a Sunday school lesson,
challenge, or sermon. Textbook: How to Prepare Bible Messages by James Braga (Multnomah Books, 2005). 320 pp.
Bible Doctrines I: Understanding and Defending Vital Truths [3 credits]
Ever feel ill-prepared to defend the deity of Jesus Christ to a Jehovah’s Witness? Or perhaps you just wrestle with how a good God could
allow the existence of evil and suffering. This course will deepen your faith and sharpen your skill in defending it in the world.
Doctrines One covers such doctrines as the Bible, God, Angels, Demons, and the Creation of man. Textbook: Basic Theology by Charles C.
Ryrie (Moody Press, 1999). 655 pp.
Bible Doctrines II: Understanding and Defending Vital Truths
(Part II) [3 credits]
Does the Bible really teach election? Is hell real? Is speaking in tongues really a sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit? This
course will deepen your faith and sharpen your skill in defending it in the world. Doctrines Two covers such doctrines as salvation, the
Holy Spirit, the Church, and Things to Come. Textbook: Basic Theology by Charles C. Ryrie (Moody Press, 1999). 655 pp.
Essentials of Soulwinning [1 credit]
Do you have a desire to share the Gospel with those around you, but are unsure of how to present it clearly? This course is designed to
help you in your presentation of the Good News through a helpful outline, Scripture memory, and times of visitation. Textbooks: Fishers
of Men by Pastor Michael E. Ascher & Just What the Doctor Ordered by Walter Wilson (BJU Press, 1988). 152pp.
A Theology of Worship: Reflecting Our Knowledge of God [1 credit]
Drums next to the pulpit, arms upraised, matching robes . . . all of these things are often associated with worship. True Worship,
however, with its ripple effect upon our music choices and our personal prayer lives, comes from a proper understanding of Who it is we
really worship. Textbook: True Worship by David Whitcomb and Mark Ward Sr (Ambassador-Emerald, 2004). 274 pp.
Old Testament Survey: Touring the Books of the OT [2 credits]
The OT is really not as hard to understand as you think it is, if you had a better grasp of the purpose of each book and the historical
setting in which it was written. Allow this course to take you to new levels your knowledge of the OT. Textbook: Survey of the Old
Testament by Paul N. Benware. Moody Press (2001 PB or 2004 HC).
New Testament Survey: Touring the Books of the NT [2 credits]
Your familiarity with the New Testament will become a more knowledgeable proficiency as a result of taking this course, which will
explore the purpose, theme, author, and historical setting of each book of the NT. Textbook: Survey of the New Testament by Paul N.
Benware. Moody Press (2001 PB or 2004 HC).
Electives
The CLS will offer other courses as 1 credit electives on a rotating basis, either during a regular semester or as a special Summer Module.
CLS Class Times
Regular CLS classes will convene for three periods on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:50pm. Summer Modules will meet for class Friday (3 hours) and Saturday (7-8 hours); and for the final exam on Monday evening (1-1.5 hours when necessary).
